Golf as a Green Exercise

Physical and Mental Benefits
Posted by: Aki Sogabe

Using the internet, we are aable to connect to the world easily and access huge amounts of information. These are good points. However, too much information can push our lives away from a simple life. Now things change so quickly. These things often make people feel stress.

One good way to relieve stress and have a good night’s sleep, is to exercise regularly. Of course, exercising affects us not only physically but also mentally. Actually, you can get exercise benefits from just stretching three times a day for five minutes. Even sitting on a yoga ball and bouncing on it refreshes you both physically and mentally.

If you have a chance, I recommend you do some exercise in nature. Just walking in the woods, by a lake or a sea shore are good ways to exercise while enjoying nature. There is good evidence that viewing, being in, and interacting with natural environments have positive effects, which increase the ability to cope with stress, reduce mental fatigue and improve concentration.

If you would like to add some excitement to your relaxation time in nature, you should play golf. Because you can connect with nature and play a game in nature through golfing.

I know many people think playing golf takes many hours. You can just play 9 holes or go to Executive Courses. Executive courses are short courses, which usually have many par-3 holes. Some executive courses have 9holes or the traditional 18 holes. For example, Balboa Park has a regular 18-hole golf course as well as 9-hole executive course.

These options usually take less than two hours and are much cheaper than playing 18 holes at regular courses. The United States Golf Association, USGA, is currently promoting the idea to play 9 holes. You can still enjoy the game and connect to nature by playing 9 holes at a regular course or at an executive course.

We meet every Thursday afternoon for lunch at 1:00pm. During the meeting, one or more of our members give a presentation about their business. That's how we learn to best market each others services to our own clients and friends.

Once per quarter we hold a social event in the evening to gather with friends and guests and enjoy conversation, a drink, appetizers and sometimes live music! This social venue affords us the opportunity to grow our relationships and promotes stronger camaraderie in the group.
